Homemade Kansas Goodness!
For more than a dozen years, the Chesser family has enjoyed making jams and jellies from fruit we've picked on local Kansas farms or in our own back yard. After years of sharing our sweet creations with friends and family (and eating plenty of them ourselves), we were persuaded to turn our hobby into a business. In 1999, Sunflower Sweets was born. |
Our 5-yr-old son Adam picking cherries from our tree - June, 2004
Our venture is truly a family business. Our oldest daughter, Betsy, picked strawberries with us for the first time about a week before her second birthday, and now it’s an annual tradition. In fact, fruit picking is a fun event for all three of our children…and some of their cousins…and some of their friends . |
Emily, our 10-yr-old, harvesting sand plums on the Kansas prairie - July 2004
Amy and Dave do all the research, development, cooking and processing, while the kids provide much-needed labor in labeling, packaging and shipping (so if you notice that your label is a little crooked…). Everyone participates in taste testing new recipes, and there is never a shortage of ideas. On Saturday mornings from April to October, you can find us at the Old Town Farmers Market in Wichita where we sell our products and network with farmers to buy the best fruits and produce in the world!
Thank you for your interest in our products! Please drop us an email with your comments and feedback. -- Amy and Dave Chesser |
